Welcome to a New Year, though we are nearly at the end of January already.
It is certainly hot and humid at the moment and looks like it may stay this way for a few more days/weeks.

Tournaments
We have had 3 great tournaments over the summer that have been well attended with
420 players.  Thank you to the organising committee for all your hard work, thank you to the volunteers who helped leading up to and on the days and a big thank you to Andrew and his team for
the condition of the course over all three days.

Competitions
Ed Tilley Cup – this was a wonderful day at Terrace Downs in near perfect conditions.  We had 30 members slogging it out to Terrace Downs’ 6, it was a hard task on aggregate to win the team event but we did it by the slightest margin of 31.86 to 31.5 so well done team!  Julie Wilson had the top score on
the day with 40 points.

Parent and Child – this Sunday 28th – 12.30pm for a 1pm tee off, Canadian foursomes, open to parent/child, grandparents/grandchildren, and anyone else who wants a game is welcome, get a pair together or we will do it on the day.  Lots of fun.  Please remember to bring a plate for a shared afternoon tea and something that does not require heating.

Club opening day – Saturday 17th February – Ambrose, 1pm tee off, plate please, again finger food and something that does not need heating.  We have invited delegates from neighbouring club and Canterbury and New Zealand Golf to join us.

Coaching
If you or anyone you know is keen to play golf or have a refresher then we are keen to get hold of them. There has been some interest in a Men’s group session that we will pursue in the coming months. We have a good number of women and children attending regular coaching but can always do with more.

Group sessions are a great way to get into the club and met new people.  Please contact Pip if you or anyone you know is interested.

Farewell
The club has been fortunate to have had Len and Dawn, our Scottish friends join us over the past 10 or so weeks.  They have slotted into the Club and community with ease and we have enjoyed their company. Thank you for your help and support (especially the baking) over our busy period, we will miss you, safe
travels………..

New Members for January
Men – Steve Hunt, Bernie Blackman, Kolio Vailu’u, Roy Stieller
Women – Annette Laidlaw

Congratulations
Well done to Dominic and Anton who played in the Canterbury Stroke Play Championships at Waitikiri last weekend. Dominic took out the Mens title in a playoff and Anton finished 5th in the Masters Grade.  It is great to have club members competing at this level.
All the best Dom for this weekend at the Otago Stroke Play Championships, let’s see if you can do it back to back

Unofficial
Course Record – 64 off the stick is the best score recorded at Hororata and this was achieved at our Sponsored Tournament on Sunday 14th by Dominic.  A fantastic effort, unfortunately it cannot be record officially but we are proud to acknowledge it within the club.
