Hororata Golf Club Golfer
Hororata
Golf Club player, Anton Fouchee has recently been awarded the Canterbury Golf
Order of Merit in the Men’s Masters category.
Competition began in October 2018 with the final tournament played at
Clearwater on April 28th, 2019.
The competition included tournaments played throughout the South Island.
Canterbury Masters Order of Merit includes 14 Tournaments where
points can be earned throughout the season.
Anton represented Canterbury and played in 8 of the 14 tournaments,
scoring points in 7 of them. The
impressive results are as follows:
1st - Canterbury Strokeplay
2nd - Aorangi Open, Russley Open, Tour Championship
3rd - Templeton Open
4th - Rangiora Open
6th Coringa Open
The top 8 ranked Women & Men along with the top 4
ranked Men's & Women's Masters were invited to play in the Tour
Championship which was the final event of the CGI Tour - Order of Merit. Anton finished second to secure enough points
to win the Order of Merit from the previous year’s winner Aaron Forsyth.
All of this counts towards securing a spot in the 6 man
Canterbury Masters Team that plays in the Freyberg Masters Tournament at the
end of the year in Timaru competing against all the other provinces. This is a very prestigious event.
Players
wanting to enter the Order of Merit competition, had to meet an eligibility
criterion for Canterbury Golf, in order to represent Canterbury. There were four sections of competition, two
each for Men and Women. Points were
allocated in each category by rank to the top eight Masters players in each
section.
The outcome
of this success, will see Anton receive $500.00 in development funds,
administered by Canterbury Golf, which can be used for tournament assistance and professional coaching.
As the Club Captain of the Hororata Golf
Club, Anton plays an active role in the club.
His golfing achievements have gained him the admiration and respect of primarily
his family and friends, as well as club members, non-golfers and others who
have heard of his success.
Well done Anton and best of luck for your
future successes. We are lucky to have such greatness in our midst!
